Why do you need to add location based/city-based pages to my website for local search engine front page placements?

Amongst other things, Google has two specific proximity-based factors built into their search algorithms – Pigeon introduced in 2014 and BERT introduced in 2019. Pigeon helps Google understand the relationship between search query and locations while BERT, which is Natural Language Programming, helps Google interpret user intent. Hence when the Google bots find webpages that clearly mention the service/product being provided along with the city in which the product is being provided, then that quickly satisfies the Bots and these location based/city based pages created for each specific service/product are quickly rewarded with front page placements.

If I have location based/city-based landing pages on my website, then why do I need to still have and maintain a Google My Business Profile?

Location based optimized service/product pages are rewarded with front page organic placements in the “organic section” of the front page, which is below the maps section of the front page. The maps section of the front page is reserved by Google only for Google My Business profiles. Creating and optimizing GMB profiles help businesses also figure out in the maps section of the front page along with being placed organically below the maps through the website pages. Hence you now have TWO listings on the font page and not just one!

What is the difference between Local SEO and Regular website SEO?

While optimizing a website for local visibility emphasis is placed on a specific location as well as local traffic and the service/product being offered in that location. Content is created keeping local users’ intent in mind. Proximity factors are considered. Also, Google My Business profiles play an important role as they are the only way to get placement in the maps section of the front page. Regular website SEO that is not targeted to any particular location will ignore these.

How do you optimize a multi-location business?

The local SEO practices would remain the same, regardless of the number of locations of your business. However, for a multi-location business, we create and optimize multiple location-based/city-based pages. Each city/county would have its own dedicated page by service/product being offered. This helps us laser focus our offerings in that city and get multiple front page placements for that city. What is Local 3-Pack or Google 3-Pack?

Have you noticed the maps section of the front page? Google lists the top 3 GMB profiles in that area. These 3 GMBs get a LOT of clicks and visibility! The pack includes 3 local businesses, with basic information about the business and a map showing their location. Google pulls the information from the GMB listing of the businesses and displays the one relevant to the search query. Thoughtful optimization of your GMB profile can ensure that Google rewards you with placement in the Local 3-Pack or Google 3-Pack.
